The Threshold
A place of suspension, from which new strength can emerge.
There are places that are not defined by landscape, walls, or history alone.
They are threshold places, spaces between two worlds.
Between times and cultures,
between the impulse to set off and the need to pause,
between the journey and arrival.
For centuries, Zum Hirschen has been one of these threshold places.
A house of transitions: between languages and cultures,
between north and south, between eras and attitudes,
between outward movement and inward stillness.
The pilgrim of yesterday becomes the traveller of today,
in search of depth, of encounter, and of experiences that enrich.
The 2025 Christmas illustration by Giulia Neri distils this attitude into a quiet image.
An open door marks the passage between two worlds.
Behind it, the day with its familiar rhythm.
Before it, the night, the starry sky, the open.
At the threshold sits the traveller.
Neither on the way nor arrived.
In a moment of pause, of stillness, of silence,
from which something new may emerge.
The gaze turns inward.
Not the destination stands at the centre,
but the transition itself — as part of a path that continues.
Christmas is precisely this moment.
A pause between what has been and what is to come.
Between movement and rest.
At Zum Hirschen, this moment is carefully held.
In an architecture that allows space.
In rituals that slow time.
In a hospitality that accompanies, without imposing.
On the door, the symbol of Zum Hirschen.
An invitation to pause for a moment.
To breathe.
And to give space to the transition.
We wish you a Christmas with time to pause
and with experiences that enrich — far beyond the holidays.
Merry Christmas
