The mountain village of Senale in the Val di Non Valley is located at a medium altitude of around 1300 m above sea level, on a south-facing high plateau. That explains why mild temperatures prevail in the winter and in summer there are pleasant temperatures under the sun.

With its forests and valleys, Alpine pastures and mountain lakes, this idyllic natural setting is ideal for family hikes as well as climbing and swimming perhaps in Lake Tret (named Felixer Weiher in German). Long hiking routes and family-friendly MTB routes, such as the Val di Non Tour start right from the doorstep of the Zum Hirschen Hotel.

Two supervised village playgrounds ensure that the kids will be happily occupied all day long while their parents can take time off to relax and enjoy the sunshine and some of the local delicacies. A definite win-win for all concerned!

In the protected environment of the Rio Sass gorge in Fondo, there are numerous adventures for the kids. At Gfrill, the mini zoo for junior visitors on the Reinguthof farm keeps livestock as well as domestic animals, some pheasants and even red deer.

The Coflari Horse Ranch offers kids horseback rides to explore the biotope conveniently within sight of the Gasthof Zum Hirschen Hotel. Triassic Park above the biotope, is where dinosaur traces were found dating 250 million years, when the Alps did not yet even exist.

Just south of Fondo in the nearby village of Ronzone, there are public swimming pools in the new recreational area. Of more historical-cultural interest, the Gampen Bunker Gallery in Senale is an opportunity to visit the underground museum in the old WW II mountain defence system that once formed part of the so-called Alpine Wall.

The region of Trentino-Alto Adige/South Tyrol has the right conditions for an ideal family winter vacation. The tranquil Val di Non Valley has mild winters free of traffic noise, snow-covered forests and the warm winter sun is also great for a sun-tan. Right on the doorstep of the Gasthof Zum Hirschen Hotel is the children’s Ulfi Snow Fun world. Here junior guests have fun learning to ski and sled at the ski schools. Apart from the sun and snow, all that’s needed for some family recreation at the Ulfi Winterwelt are a few tables and a hot drink at the magic carpet stand!

The relaxing walks through the winter forests as well as long hiking routes and MTB tours all start right at the doorstep of the Gasthof Zum Hirschen Hotel. There are also numerous snowshoe hiking routes in the Val di Non Valley, such as to the Laugen Alm high plateau or up to the top of the Gantkofel at an elevation of 1,866 meters. A ski tour up the Monte Lucco, also promises spectacular winter vistas.

The new Gasthof Zum Hirschen Hotel rooms with sauna area and relaxation zone, the CERVO Restaurant and Bistro on the historic veranda, Café and Wine-Bar are all congenial areas conducive to socializing with family and friends.
